What made you decide to study in the Czech Republic/Brno/MENDELU?

When I was in high school, I was considering studying abroad but I was not sure where. Then, a relative of mine who lives in Brno recommended me FBE at Mendel University in Brno. I researched the study programs and offers and it quickly caught my attention. I did some research about studying in Czech Republic and Brno and the comments were very positive. Quality of education was praised and as well as the price and quality of life ratio. The fact that Brno is city full of students with couple of high-quality universities and opportunities for choosing a suitable career path after finishing school encouraged me even more to choose FBE.

Did your studies meet your expectations? How did you find the study programme, instructors, university facilities? Were there any differences from studying in your country?

I can say that the studies meet my general expectations. The study program that I took was quite diverse and it covered wide range of disciplines. From marketing, management, business, economics, finances, mathematics, informatics, trade, law and more. I would have been even more happy if subjects connected with banking and insurance were included. Additionally, it would be more beneficial for foreigners who already study in English to be able to choose to learn Czech as their second foreign language instead of French or German because it is most certainly more valuable when one lives in Czech Republic. The instructors were professional and eager to help, lots of them focused on practical exercises which I strongly encourage and support to become general practice. The university facilities are excellent, first time I visited the school to take the entrance exam, I was convinced that the school has superb facilities which gave me encouragement that the quality of studying would be high. When it comes to differences between studying in my country and here, I would say the study programs are somewhat similar but I think in FBE there is more focus on practical tasks and encouraging teamwork between the colleagues which is very helpful for the future career. Another difference is that here there are only two exam sessions, in January – February and in June. In my country, there are three – the first two and August-September one.

What was the biggest surprise with regard to studying or living in the Czech Republic/Brno?

The biggest surprise was unfortunately the clumsiness of the Foreign Police Department who process the visa for foreign students. It is ridiculously slow and painful process which I believe could be made much easier. And also, I never thought that such a high-quality beer could be so cheap, simply amazing.

What was your most memorable experience or what did you enjoy most as a student in Brno/MENDELU?

Undoubtably the student life that Brno is remarkable and diverse from every point of view. I had an opportunity to meet plenty of people from different cultures, occasions to travel around and even work for an international company during some period of my studying. The city and the surroundings are full with events throughout the year, from Christmas markets to firework festival which I absolutely enjoy every year and I recommend visiting such events as much as you could.

How do you think your time in the Czech Republic/Brno/MENDELU has helped your studies and/or your career?

The fact that one obtains English diploma in EU country from a recognized university opens a variety of possibilities. The process of globalization and interconnection of the world and gives me options to choose to work basically wherever I prefer with my degree. From big international firms located in Brno, Czech Republic or anywhere else, to using my entrepreneurship skills and knowledge that I obtained at FBE to start my own business. I feel that the career path is fully open and up for grabbing.

Do you have any advice for students thinking about studying in Brno/MENDELU? Or would you like to share anything else?

Before making any decisions do a solid research not only on the university, faculty and the study program but also on the culture and the way of life in the place that you are going to. If you plan to study and live in someplace for a couple of years it would be much easier if you can adopt to the local culture and environment. That way you would feel more integrated and it would be much easier to navigate around. Use your free time to meet other people and visit as many events and sights and possible. That way you would get the complete experience of living and studying.
