What will you learn?

The primary objective of the programme is to prepare the finest specialists in the scientific fields related to Oncology and Haematology. The graduates should be ready to continue their scientific careers in academic institutions and medical facilities.

In case the graduate chooses to further their scientific career, they receive support in taking part at long-term post-doctoral internships abroad. The individual departments involved in the course of the studies cover a wide spectrum of topics from the fields of Oncology and Haematology, which are also taught to the doctoral students.

The connecting element between the individual laboratories, academic institutions, and medical facilities, are the shared technologies, joint workshops, academic seminars, conferences, and the mutual mentoring of PhD candidates. The students are motivated by the high quality of the specialised research in a competitive - yet open to collaboration - environment. The performance of individual students is not only rewarded financially but also e.g. through the means of admittance to prestigious international conferences.

Practical training

Practical experience is obtained through practical work performed by the research group the student belongs to, and also inside the shared infrastructure, or at CEITEC. For students specialising in clinical studies, the practical training takes place in the partner medical facilities (MMCI, The Faculty Hospital in Brno, the Faculty Hospital U sv. Anny).

Career opportunities

The graduates of the doctoral degree programme are able to use their acquired qualification especially at research institutes and medical facilities in the roles of researchers, university lecturers etc. They are authorised to conduct independent science and research practice in the fields of basic and applied research. In a larger context, they are prepared to perform any activities related to scientific work, i.e. solve conceptual problems, perform science-management activities, and lecturing.

Admission requirements

The admission procedure takes place in two rounds: 1st round: The admission committee evaluates the materials which the applicant has attached to the application: - curriculum vitae - an essay / a motivation letter - a diploma and transcript of courses taken - two letters of recommendation from previous teachers. It is recommended to prepare these documents very carefully, as it is on the basis of these documents that the applicant will be invited to the second round of interviews. 2nd round: The entrance examination in the form of an interview conducted before the admission committee; upon prior agreement, it can be held using videoconferencing technology. In the admission process, the applicant can obtain a maximum of 100 points. To be accepted, it is necessary to receive at least 80 points. An admission committee evaluates a presentation of an applicant during the exam. However, the final decision has to be made by the dean of faculty. If the result is "accepted", the administrator of the Office for Quality prepares admission documents. These admission documents are sent directly to the applicant. In the case of a visa application, admission documents are required for the procedure.
