Applied health economics: career for future leaders in healthcare
Health economics is one of the most dynamic fields today, with the potential to impact quality of life across our society. That is why the unique study programme Applied Health Economics was created at MUNI. AHE combines an interdisciplinary knowledge of economics and healthcare with an emphasis on the practical skills of analysts and industry leaders.
You will learn how health policy works, how to analyse data, how to formulate recommendations for important decisions, as well as how to understand the economic aspects of healthcare, including how it is funded and regulated.
Key areas of study:
Evaluating the quality and efficiency of health services: How to ensure that care is good and effective?
Sustainable value-for-money analyses: How to measure the economic and clinical value of healthcare?
Big-data analyses in healthcare: How to use the vast amount of data available in order to improve care?
Analyses of health policies and plans: What is happening in the world of healthcare and how is it responding to the needs of our society?
Evaluation and assessment of health technologies: How to make decisions about new treatments based on clinical and economic data?
The language of teaching is English. Experts from six faculties of MUNI and experts from practice will carry out the teaching. Studies will take place in Brno. However, the study is designed to suit those who will be working during their studies.

Practical training is part of the AHE studies. During your internship, you will engage with partners in a work placement that will last for a minimum of 6 weeks (at least 3 weeks of which will be at the employer’s site). You can also do an internship in scientific research if you are interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in the future.
